MG ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam Extreme Burst Mode (Gao Gao)

Hi folks :) How's things?

Actually I have completed this kit mid last year but most of the pictures are over-exposed so I only revisited this kit recently and retake some of the pictures with my new Galaxy Note II ;)

Manufacturer: Gao Gao
Scale: 1/100
Grade: MG
Origin: SEED Destiny
Price: About RM120 (email me at DuelMasterNG@yahoo.com for latest price and availability)

Section 1: Runners

This replication is pretty nicely done and I would rate that this kit is still at 95% comparing to the original :) This is the Extreme Blast Mode so some parts of the inner frame is in sparkling silver instead of the regular grey color.

The plastic quality is the usual of Gao Gao so no worries if you wanted to paint the kit.

Section 2: Decals & Accessories

I did not take any picture of the decals. My unit was from the older and the decal is not in any good quality...

Section 3: Skeleton Build

My usual skeleton build ;)

The Legs

Detailing and articulations are fantastic! This is replicated perfectly from the original.

The Waist Unit

Pretty straight-forward waist unit ;) There's a mechanism to allow the tight to be opened wider for signature SEED posing :P

The Chest Unit

The pull-out mechanism would allow the shoulder joints to be pulled out for more dynamic posing. There is also joint at the torso making it possible to tilt slightly to the front and back, with sort of locking mechanism at the back (observe the red piece in the picture below).

The Arms

Excellent articulations for the arms ;) Destiny comes with a set of open palm for the MMI-X340 "Palma Fiocina" palm beam cannon, and the regular articulated hands.

The Head Unit

Pretty good parts separation and very good snap-fitting for the head ;)

Completed Skeleton

Very solid inner frame ;)

Section 4: The Legs

Very solid build with very good articulations :) The armor does not hinders the movement. Parts separations are well done with no snap-fit issue ;)

Section 5: The Waist Unit

Very nice waist unit, however, the side skirts will hinder the hip movement and fortunately, they could be turned side-way ;)

Section 6: The Chest Unit

Pretty straight-forward build.

Section 7: The Shoulders

Not a complicated build, thought the shoulder tips could be detached and function as Beam Boomerang ;)

Section 8: The Arms

Nicely done and highly articulated :) One of my favourite arm ;)

Section 9: Destiny Gundam

Half done without the backpack :P

Section 10: Posing without Backpack

Section 11: Weaponry

Destiny Gundam is equipped with various weaponry for all-purpose combat from long range to melee: -
  • MA-BAR73/S High-Energy Beam Rifle
  • Shield
  • M2000GX High-Energy Long-Range Beam Cannon
  • MMI-714 "Arondight" Anti-Vessel Sword
  • MMI-GAU26 17.5mm CIWS (head valcun)
  • MMI-X340 "Palma Fiocina" Palm Beam Cannon (on both palm)
  • MX2351 "Solidus Fulgor" Beam Shield Generator (on both gauntlet-like piece on both hand)
  • RQM60F "Flash-Edge 2" Beam Boomerang (mounted on both shoulders)

Section 12: Backpack

Extreme Blast Mode comes with the Wing of Light effect which I will only take pictures at a later time ;) The backpack is very nicely done, with some degree of articulations to prevent interference during posing.

Section 13: Destiny Gundam, Launching

Launching pose ;)

Section 14: Signature Shoot-Right Pose

This is the standard shoot-right pose on most box art :P

Section 15: More Posing, TBA

Including posing with the sword and cannon, plus the Wing of Light ;)

Quick Review

Plastic Quality and Detailing

Detailing for this kit is very nice done and my evaluation is as close as 95% to the original ;). As for the plastic, the quality is the usual of Gao Gao so no issue :)

Articulations

Articulations are very good!
  • Head/Neck: Very good!
  • Shoulder: Very good!
  • Arm/Elbow: Excellent!
  • Wrist: Good.
  • Hand: Good.
  • Waist: Good.
  • Skirt Armour: Normal.
  • Hip/Tight: Excellent.
  • Knee: Excellent.
  • Ankle: Good.
  • Feet: Good.

Looks and Feels

The detailing is very good and come close to 95% of the original, with some point minus here and there. The snap-fit is very nicely done as I do not have any issue at all snap-fitting the whole kit. The joints are also tight enough to hold the position even with some challenging poses ;)

Overall, this kit is VERY nice and a very viable replacement of the original. This is especially crucial for those who own the Expo Clear version where you can swap the inner frame with the sparkling silver and also apply the Wing of Light.

As usual, for those of you who can afford, do buy and support original ;)

  1. how about plastic quality? I mean, since this is 007 model, is it good? because I got MG Strike Freedom FBM (004 model) that has "bad" plastic quality and MG Exia (023) with good plastic quality..
so is the quality the same as MG FBM? or is it close to Exia's quality?
    thanks..(and sorry for bad english :P )

  2. If you decided to buy bootleg, I would suggest you do not compare plastic quality as bootleg is definitely have lesser quality.

As for comparison between 007 and 023/024, it will be entirely up to you and the time the kit is produced... if you are comparing the 007 produced in 2008 and the 023 produced in 2010, the later should be better in plastic quality as technology advances; if you are comparing reproduction of 007 and 023/024 in 2012, there should not be much differences in plastic quality.

    Cheers,

    1. I do not have problem but this could due to my experience handling bootleg :P

The crotch mechanism doesn't really lock without some trimming but it does not affect anything so best leave it untouched ;)

The Wing actually I do not face any issue... maybe you might want to consider filling the male peg a bit to reduce its thickness ;)

  4. Do you have any problems with the shiny parts? My SF FBM's arms were loose when the shining gold parts are one. swapped it with the non shiny parts and it was better.
