MG 00 7 Sword/G (Daban)

Hi guys, here's my review for the latest MG release from Daban, MG 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G ;)

Manufacturer: Daban
Scale: 1/100
Grade: MG
Origin: Gundam 00
Price: About RM120 (email me at DuelMasterNG@yahoo.com for latest price and availability)

Section 1: Runners

The main mecha is still 00 Gundam, so at least 50% of the runners are identical to the earlier MG 00 Raiser ;) The good thing here is the 1st batch actually comes with 5 LEDs (yes, 5 LEDs although this kit only need 4).

Another good thing is the detailing are pretty good, as I observed that up to 98% of the detailing are intact. On the not so good side, the parts looks a little bit too oily, and Daban could do better for the transparent green parts to make a more crystal clear finishing.

Section 2: Decals

This kit comes with dry-transfer decal, dry-sticker decal and foil sticker same as the original ;) The quality of the dry-transfer and dry-sticker are as good as the original, whereas the foil stickers just at the acceptable standard :P

Section 3: Weaponry

This is the main selling point of 007SG, the swords and guns, so I decided to start with them first ;)

GN Buster Sword II

A very solid buster sword type of weapon with nice deployment mechanism... pulling the handle will deploy the hand-guard portion, and pulling the tip of the sword will deploy the side portion together ;)

An LED also could be fitted to light up the sword but the blue parts in the middle is not thick enough to prevent light leakage so I would advise all to paint the inside of the piece with silver (or black) as shown in the 4th picture down ;)

I wonder where is GN Buster Sword I...

Refer here for the LED fix, if you know what I am talking about ;)

GN Sword II Blaster

Mainly used as a blaster (beam rifle type ranged weapon) but can also double-up as a GN Sword for melee combat. Pretty straight-forward build here ;)

GN Sword II Long

Slightly longer than the usual GN Sword II. Nice detailing and pretty straight-forward build too :) Can alter between sword mode and rifle mode.

GN Sword II Short

About 50% shorter than the usual GN Sword II, with the same functionality to switch between sword mode and rifle (gun?) mode ;) The tip of the sword could be shot out and maneuver with a wire for more unorthodox attack.

Nice detailing and pretty straight-forward build too :)

GN Katar

Melee weapon usually mounted on the knee for easy access.

Full Arsenal

Except the beam sabers :P

Section 4: Skeleton Build

Although the base model is still the same as 00 Raiser earlier, I am doing the skeleton build once again.

The Legs

Detailing and articulations are fantastic! The green transparent parts are a little disappointed (could be shinier) but no much of an issue ;)

The Waist

Same as the 00 Raiser, a very solid and straight-forward build ;)

The Chest

The pull-out mechanism would allow the shoulder joints to be pulled out for more dynamic posing. The upperbody can swing left & right, where the torso joint allow swinging front & back ;)

The Shoulders

Straight-forward build... nothing much to say ;)

The Arms

Excellent articulations for the arms! The elbow joints are a bit tight, but this is a good issue ;)

The Head

Excellent parts separation! Pretty solid build ;)

Section 5: The Legs

Very solid build with very good articulations, although the armor does hinders the movement a little bit. Parts separations are well done with no snap-fit issue ;)

Recommendation: Apply a tad bit of super glue on the edge of the green transparent parts (GN condenser) so that it sticks ;)

Section 6: The Waist

Very solid and simple waist. Parts separations are well done with no snap-fit issue ;)

Section 7: The Chest

Excellent parts separation and good articulations, as the abdomen mechanism allowed tilting front/back and left/right ;)

Section 8: The Shoulders

Very straight-forward build... This could easily qualify for the simplest shoulder pieces I have ever assemble for an MG :P

Section 9: The Arms

Nicely done! Highly articulated despite the elbow joints are a bit tight :P This kit comes with a pair of usual MG articulated hands, and a part of fixed hands with exchangeable fingers for various posing ;)

Section 10: The Backpack

Pretty nicely done backpack with twin GN drives ;) There's a locking mechanism to prevent the GN drive piece dropping down due to the weight when docking the GN Buster Sword II and GN Sword II Blaster ;)

Section 11: 00 Gundam

The main mecha is still 00 Gundam so there is no difference as compare to the earlier 00 Raiser except for the knee pieces to mount the GN Katar ;)

So far, the building is pretty solid and I do not have any issue except the green transparent parts needed a little bit of glue in order for them to stay in place :P

Section 12: 00 Gundam 7 Sword/G

00 Gundam fully loaded with GN Buster Sword II, GN Sword II Blaster, GN Sword II Long, GN Sword II Short, GN Katar x 2, and GN Beam Saber x 2 ;)

Despite the fully loaded weight, this kit can stand on its own with no issue ;)

Quick Review

Plastic Quality and Detailing

Detailing for this kit is excellent... I would say this is as close as 98% to the original. As for the plastic, I personally do not like the finishing to be this glossy but nothing cannot be fixed with the flat top-coat ;)

The plastic quality is close to the usual Gao Gao/TT Hongli quality so no issue here.

The green semi-transparent parts could have been a little more shinier but they are not, so I'm a bit disappointed by that :P

Articulations

Articulations are very good!
  • Head/Neck: Good!
  • Shoulder: Excellent!
  • Arm/Elbow: Excellent!
  • Wrist: Excellent.
  • Hand: Good.
  • Waist: Good.
  • Skirt Armour: Good.
  • Hip/Tight: Excellent.
  • Knee: Excellent.
  • Ankle: Good.
  • Feet: Good.

Looks and Feels

The detailing is pretty good and come close to 98% of the original! The plastic quality is close to the usual Gao Gao/TT Hongli quality so no issue at all. A little disappointment is that the semi-transparent parts could have been a little more shinier but they are not :P

The snap-fit is very nicely done as I do not have any issue at all snapfitting the whole kit. The joints are also tight enough to hold the position even with some challenging poses ;)

Overall, this kit is VERY nice and a very viable replacement of the original, especially those who owned the 00 Raiser but feels that it is too expensive to go for the ori 00 7 Sword/G only for the additional accessories :P

As usual, for those of you who can afford, do buy and support original ;)

    1. There's stickers and decals for the ears ;) For LED light to pass thru, use the decals ;)

    1. Shouldn't have any problem with the head or GN drive as mine fit nicely... The buster sword, however, need some filing to take off one of the corner ;) let me see if I can get some picture up in the next few days ;)

  6. hey, duelmaster. i'm about to buy this kit, but i was wondering. are the clear green parts too fogged up to let the LED light pass through it?

can i see the whole kit lighted up?

    1. You can check the lighting for 00 Gundam in my earlier 00 Raiser review. I did not install LED on this as I have other use for them.

    1. The buster sword is just too heavy for 1 hand, so yeah, its hard ;)

  10. I have 1 my own! Before, I've been judging gunpla modelling/collection and rated them through brands and of course due to bias I prefered bandai. Then came Christmas last year, my girl gave me this gunpla (because I really loved 7-sword and was expecting an HG but gave me an MG! :D) and saw "daban" and thought to myself awwww... :( but then I challenged myself: to make it look like bandai and after 2 weeks of painting and assembling (almost cried due to a broken hip ball joint and yes it was that special because it was given to me by the one I love and my first MG!) man, it was the bomb! Very good review bro and keep it up! No matter the gunpla brand, just keep reviewing! More power and God bless! :D (PS: Planning to get an ARF next time!)
